We are not meant to navigate challenging moments alone

If you’re like me, you’ve been feeling the weight of the world, of what’s happening around us.

I don’t need to spell it out for you; if you’re paying attention at all, you can see it and feel it. The tension. The injustice. The cruelty. It's made its way into our everyday lives and absorbs our full attention. It’s a lot.

For me as a parent, it’s been exceptionally heavy and heartbreaking. Holding my own emotions while also trying to create a sense of safety and normalcy for my kids, it’s not easy, and I guess it shouldn’t be. What’s happening is not ok.

Inclusivity isn’t just a value for StereoType or a buzzword we throw around. It’s deeply tied to our values and to community. It’s a simple but powerful fact that we are all connected and the deepening need to be here for one another. None of us is meant to navigate challenging moments alone.

How do we find our shared humanity amongst the chaos? Mr. Rogers put it best - "When I was a boy, and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

You can look for helpers and also be one yourself.

Sometimes that looks like helping ourselves first - resting, stepping away from the noise, spending time with people who make us feel grounded, finding small pockets of beauty or ease wherever we can. For me lately, it’s going outside into nature and observing the smallest things I can. Taking time to marvel has helped me feel connected to something bigger than all of us, and it’s been nourishing my soul. It reminds me of the importance of observing nature and, in doing so, honoring its magnificence while also expressing gratitude for the Earth that holds so much.

Sometimes it looks like reaching outward; checking on a neighbor, supporting a local business, showing up for community spaces, offering help where we can, listening without needing to fix.

And sometimes it’s all of the above.

At StereoType Kids, our work has always been rooted in the belief that people deserve to belong exactly as they are. That kids deserve to grow up in a world where differences aren’t treated as threats but as what make a community stronger.

That belief matters now more than ever.

So if things feel heavy right now, I want to say: you’re not alone. And you don’t have to carry it all by yourself. We stand together.
